If you’re wondering whether or not you can start vlogging with your phone in 2020? I’m here to validate your idea of starting vlogging with your phone.
There are so many vloggers and YouTubers that make videos on their iPhones or Android phones. So don’t let the fear of judgment stop you from starting vlogging with your phone.
The whole point is that whether or not you enjoy making vlogs on YouTube.
If you’ve already decided that it’s your thing, then, what are you waiting for?
In case, you’re giving it a try to find out what happens or whether or not you like it, then it’s fine too.
What’s important is that you put yourself out there and get out of your comfort zone.
One of the biggest misconceptions about vlogging is that you need an expensive DSLR camera to make a vlog. Even though, we all see many YouTubers and vloggers make videos on their phones.
In fact, most vlogging influencers and top YouTubers started making YouTube videos and vlogs on the crappy cameras or their phones. Every YouTuber and vlogger evolves along the way.
Moreover, some top vloggers still shoot some clips on their phones when they don’t have a camera on them. So stop worrying about a fancy camera that you can’t hold it all the time. So vlogging with your phone is your best shot.
Things to Know to Start Vlogging with Phone:
Use the Main Camera to Shoot
The one thing you shouldn’t forget is that your priority for shooting vlog footage should be your main camera instead of a front-facing camera. There are so many benefits of using the main camera, for instance:
- You get better quality footage with the main camera
- Most phones only have image stabilization in the main camera
- Phones have more options for their main cameras as compared to front cameras
- You don’t have a choice except for looking into the camera
So, the above-mentioned four points have pretty much summed up why the phone’s main camera is better for vlogging.
Use a Microphone for Outdoor
It may sound strange to use a microphone on your phone partly because you haven’t done it before. But it shouldn’t surprise you that a lot of YouTubers shoot videos on their phones and use collar microphones for better audio quality. So it won’t harm vloggers to use collar microphones or shotgun microphones on their phones. I use Boya By MM1; it works for both DSLR and smartphone. If you’re wondering how one would place a shotgun mic over a smartphone, then keep reading this blog post; you’ll find out.
Get a Phone Tripod
A Phone tripod? Is that even a thing? Well, yeah, since you’re going to vlog with your phone, it won’t be such harm to get a tiny phone tripod to make a few sit-down video clips for your vlogs. There is a whole range of phone tripods out there. So you would have to go through some of them and choose what you exactly need. Maybe, you want something more compact to put it in your backpack or jeans pocket. I have a mini tripod for vlogging with the phone.
Buy a Microphone Rig for Phone
This tip is for vloggers who vlog with their phones, but they really want to up their vlogging game. This microphone rig won’t cost much, but it may be difficult to carry around, especially when you’re on the go. It may be 6 to 8 inches in width, but the good news is that it’s a light-weight rig for holding your phone in landscape mode. Another advantage of the microphone rig is that it has room for portable camera light along with the microphone.
Choose Your Video Editor
You may be able to edit videos on your phone with mobile apps on both Android and iOS, but I’d highly recommend getting a good-quality video editing software such as Filmora 9.3. I have been using this software for the past three years. Wondershare kept on improving Filmora for the better. I’ve tried many Android apps for video editing, but l liked VivaCut and VlogIt the best.
Install YouTube Studio App
One of the important things you should do when you’re starting vlogging with your phone is installing the YouTube Studio App. What this app does is that it provides a lot of statistics, information, and updates of your YouTube channel. Once you install this app, it requires your YouTube account credentials to log in and access your YouTube account. Don’t worry about the authenticity of this app because it’s from YouTube, but beware of other apps that are not from YouTube or Google and ask for your YouTube account’s access.
